My name is Tresor

Hi! I’m Tresor from Cameroon and I’m 10. Most people say I am quite a happy fun loving boy but there is one thing that really gets me down. When I was three, I fell into the fire and burnt my left arm really badly. My mum took me to the doctors for 6 months, but they just did their best to stop it from getting infected, and soon I lost most of the movement in my arm.

It took my mum 5 years just to pay off the doctors’ bills, so we would never be able to afford to pay for a surgery that would allow me to use my arm again. So I prayed every day for a miracle, that we would somehow get the money to be able to fix my arm. And you know what? I got my miracle! We did not suddenly get rich, instead my mum heard about a hospital on a ship that was doing surgeries for free! We couldn’t believe it!

So my mum left my little brother with grandma and we set off for Douala where the ship was docked. I was a bit nervous at first, walking up the ramp into the ship. I had never seen anything like it. I think my mum was a bit nervous too. When we arrived in the hospital, the nurses were really nice to us, and so I started to relax. I ate so much good food on the ship that I started to get fat!

When the day came for my surgery, I was a bit nervous again, especially when they came to get me. Then I fell asleep and the next thing I knew I was lying in my bed again with my arm all bandaged. My arm was pretty sore for a few days, but slowly it got better and then it was time to start work on using my arm again. That was not so easy either, but I knew that if I ever wanted to fulfil my dream of become a mechanic, I would have to work hard to make my arm work again.

When it was time to go home I was a bit sad. I really wanted to see my little brother and my grandma, but I was really going to miss all the nice people (and the food) on the ship. Now I can go back to school and I can also help my mum with jobs around the house like cooking, and cleaning, and fetching water. I really want to thank everyone at Mercy Ships for helping kids like me, and so many others, to get the miracles that we have been praying for!
